Spatial distribution of the tau cross-eigenimage in low and high β-amyloid groups. The amyloid scores appear to be statistically independent of tau for the low β-amyloid group.
The figure shows that the tau cross-eigenimage corresponding to the low β-amyloid group produced very low distance-correlation values, which is an indication that the process of β-amyloid accumulation with minimal burden seems to be statistically independent of the distributed tau uptake.
Since the tau cross-eigenimage for the high β-amyloid group produced relatively stronger values in the entorhinal cortex, one can conclude that the spatial relationship between β-amyloid and tau is not completely determined by the amount of extreme β-amyloid uptake, but follows a continuously evolving dependency that reaches its maximal expression at intermediate stages of β-amyloid accumulation.
