Individual scores for the first canonical distance correlation component in the latent space. The scores are maximally distance-correlated and appear to segregate the CN and LMCI subjects, particularly in the tau axis of the latent space.
Panel C in the figure shows that the first tau and β-amyloid CDC-based scores are strongly distance-correlated with a distance-correlation value of 0.49, which proves that they are not statistically independent, but follow a specific and possibly nonlinear dependency.
Finally, Panel D shows that the strongest statistically significant differences in tau CDC scores occurred between the Cognitively Normal and the Late Mild Cognitively Impaired groups, which demonstrates that the tau scores are more sensitive than the β-amyloid scores for revealing differences between cognitively distinct groups.
