Observed longitudinal changes of Striatum SBR and Midbrain surface deformations for a sample of PD subjects with time concurrent DaTscan SPECT and T1 images. In both modalities, noticeable longitudinal changes were detected, particularly after 24 months from baseline.
The DaTscan SBR decreased over time in regions of the striatum, including Pallidum, Caudate and Putamen. Correspondingly, changes from baseline for local deformations of the Midbrain surface were also assessed with a mixed-effects longitudinal model.
In those statistical deformation maps, negative t-values reflected an inward displacement along the surface’s normal, providing a local assessment of the atrophy progression within the Midbrain.
